I Died for It Once

Careful.
It burns.

And my heart
was never again
the same.

The flame
consumed me
whole

made
ashes

of who
I used
to be.

I grew
into love,

heart forward,

eyes
wide
open,

trust
bleeding

into
trust
again—

that kind
of intimacy

is hard
to find.

I died
for it
once

it
found
me.
